I'm searching for the title or the author of a children's book about a young boy who finds a baby star and brings it home. He attempts to care for it by feeding it his mother's silver spoons and his father's golden watch, but eventually must send it back to the sky. The little boy sort of looks like a walking broccoli stalk in the illustrations (as do his parents). I believe his name started with a D and was something like "daiku" but googling that isn't coming up with anything useful :(
