My 17 hp briggs and stratton will not start. I have taken off the starter and had it checked. It also has a brand new battery on it. It started now wanting to roll over last year and now if it does it is very weak if anything. Any help?

When it hits the compression stroke does it stop ?
It never hits the compression stroke, when I turn the key it may start to turn just briefly and the not again.

Pull the spark plug out and see if it turns easy , if so you might want to look at the valves for proper clearance, if not have your starter checked.
Luck
Thanks form the help dg, it starts now.
All of the gas is collecting in the carburator, I took the carburator apart and cleaned in with carb and choke cleaner. What else can I try to prevent the motor from flooding and rubnning properly?
Find out WHY its flooding and check the float level and check the needle valve and seat. It WILL run poorly if it leaks.
What type carb is it gravity fed or fuel pump, what type unit is it on?
Your welcome
What did you do to make it start ?
It is gravity fed with an electronic float.
Sprayed wd 40 around the wheel that connects to the starter teeth and replaced the cyliniod.
Good job .
