Cefalexin: Is it really safe for pregnancy?
I am 29 weeks pregnant and done my ultrasound and everything went well. Unfortunately, after that I've got some hemmoroid problems. When my OB checked it, it's swelling and starting or already have some puss cells on it which made it very painful. Because of that, she prescribed me Cefalexin 500mg 3 times a day for 7 days. I am very anxious every time I took the pill though she told me that it's a safe antibiotic for pregnant women. After 3 days of taking it, the hemmoroid thing doesn't swell anymore and don't have already the puss cells surrounding it. I called my doctor and try to ask if can I stop taking the antibiotic anyway it's not painful anymore and I told her other developments but she told me to continue as prescribed so that I will not be resistant into it... is it really that safe to take such antibiotic? Could this antibiotic possibly harm my baby considering being on a 29th week of pregnancy?

I don't think anyone here is going to second guess a Physician who has examined you, knows your history and who prescribed medication.

You cannot cure an infection without taking the full course of antibiotics.

    Ask the Doctor again.

Cephalexin is considered a safe medication to take while pregnant. And, as JudyKayTee said, it is always wise to take the full course of an antibiotic when prescribed.
