I got a 94 honda civic dx with a d15b7 for free after doing a head and timing job on a 95 honda civic. The 94 civic has a locked engine it over heated blew the head gasket and the parked it for a while after it broke down they tried to fix it so they put a head gasket (they did not resurface the head and has all old parts) but after they finished and tried to turn it on they got nothing. The girl tells me the engine locked up but I can't turn the crank because her cousin started takeing parts for his civic and one of the parts happened to be the crank sproket if it is locked up I know I'm going to have to take the engine out send the head to get it resurfaced and get a compression test done to it but do I resurface the black and what do I do to be able to make the crank turn over? Don't overlook the fact that major valve damage may be interferring with engine rotation. Ultimately, you will need to replace the crankshaft pulley and pulley bolt. It's the pulley bolt you need, along with a breaker bar, to rotate the engine. My bet is the head needs machining, the valves need fixing, and the block is okay. The timing belt and water pump likely need replacing, too. The reality is that it may not be worth the expense and effort.

Well I got a daily driver already and my older siister doesn't have a car so I'm trying to fix it for her she is paying for the parts and all I'm doing the job for free since its my sister. I have broken a timing belt and bent the valves on my 95 civic and sent the head to get resurfaced cleand up and did a valve job for 120 and the got head gasket intak manifold gasket timing belt cam seal water pump fuel filter valve cover gasket grommets sparkplugs oil change for less then 300...

What he is trying to say is you may reach a poin where the block and maybe the heads are unusable. It may be better to get a complete short block than it would be to rebuild the blowed up one. Either way wish you good luck.

If you get the machining and parts cheap enough, and you provide the free labor, it may work out fine. You just need to make a realistic assessment of the situation, so you don't get sucked in.
