Death beneficiaries on certificate of deposits?
Hi, My Dad left two CDs with my name and my step mother's name on them! One cd is her or me and the other cd is her and me! She hasn't spoken to me since she found out how the cds were left! I know she can't cash out the cd that list us as her and me, but what about the other cd that has her or me! If she dies before I do, will her half of the cd go to her heirs or is it just me?

OR means it goes to either one of you. AND means it goes to you jointly.

Was the estate probated? You need to get this straightened out. You could both agree to cash the CD and split the proceeds or make some other arrangement.

The her OR you belongs to both of you - either one of you can cash it or leave it to someone else. Why take that chance?

Her share of the "her and you" CD would go to her heirs.

Agreed, you need to talk to her and divide the money, if the CD are about the same size, you could take one and her take one. Or cash both out and divide the money.

Normally if done properly, they will not go into probate if the names were done properly to transfer ownership
