    You can't. If you really need a switched fixture there, the old one has to be replaced with a pull chain fixture.

    The trick is to find someplace on the fixture to mount the switch.


    Depends on the fixture. If there is a place to drill a hole for the pull chain switch, the threaded portion, I think a 3/8" hole is needed, then drill a hole slightly larger than the threaded nipple mount with the locknuts that come with the switch, and splice the wiring of the switch into the fixture.

    One wire of the switch will connect to the hot feed, and the other wire on the switch will connect to the black wire(s) of the fixture.

    I believe this is what your looking for, I found it on lowe's website. For $2.99, it's not worth wasting time drilling holes in the original lampholder. Connect the black to the wire to the brass screw, and the white to the silver one, and any bare wire to the green terminal, if any.
