My son and I went to a private seller to purchase a jeep cherokee. I gave him $220.00 as a deposit to hold the jeep for two weeks for the remainder of the money. He had no problem with this. He signed a paper saying he received the deposit . I came hoome today to find out that he had given it away to his cousin and wants to give me back the deposit. Is there anything I can do?

Not much can be done. The car is now in the hands of someone else who did you no wrong. The seller has not damaged you so a suit is unlikely.

There is of course a chance, if you find a buy another similar vechile at a higher price, you could sue for the difference,

The local court may not may not allow it, but that is about the only law suit possible

I have dealt with this issue in court. Failure to sell you something does not create damage, in court. My advice is to be glad you got your deposit and walk away
