GFI circuit associated with garden pond pump
Have a small garden pond with a water pump that is connected to an outdoor covered GFI circuit. Circuit and pond/pump installed approximately 5 years ago. Have not had any problems with GFI tripping until just recently. When I reset the GFI now, I start getting a clicking noise emanating from the GFI when I plug the water pump into the GFI and usually after few minutes or less the GFI trips. Is the noise an indication of a defective GFI or that water pump is defective? The water pump appears to running fine and pumping water during the time the GFI is functioning. Thanks, Forest

I could have sworn I answered this question this morning to find my answer missing this afternoon. I must have done something wrong.

    Here goes again.

I have never heard a GFI outlet click, or make any noise for that matter. That does not mean it is not possible.

Sounds like the GFI is defective, and a cheap, first fix will be to replace the GFI. If the new one continues to trip, then there obviously is a ground fault in the pump system, which may be difficult to locate and/or repair.
