Was running fine but now sputters when on and eventually dies. I cannot full throttle because it will die. When middle to low throttle it lacks power and it sputters.

When was the last time you checked or replaced the air filter on this unit? Has you made sure you have no water in the tank after it was stored for the winter?

Does it make smoke when it sputters and dies, what color?

Only when first starts smoke is black

I just replaced it right after it started acting up and drained the fuel tank and added fresh gas but it still acting up

Time to drop the carb bowl and cleanit and also insure the float and needle are doing their job. If not sure how to do that let us know

Also if you haven't lately change the spark plug while your at it.
