My natural hair color is really dark brown but I dyed it like a year ago into black. I really want to dye them into light brown but I don't want to use bleach. What can I do?

I have brown hair that I dye a few shades darker. I have tried to lighten it at home but found the only bits that lighten are the roots where there is no hair colour. Go to a professional.
