How would I know when ovulation is taking place?
Here is some good info about how to chart when you are ovulating:
Charting Your Fertility Cycle
If you choose to take the charting route, I recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. I did it myself and was quite amazed at how informative it was.
The "quick & easy" way to determine ovulation is to buy OPK's (ovulation predictor test strips). They're found at pharmacies, discount retailers, just about anywhere with a pharmacy department. You'll find them near the pregnancy tests. Using OPK's is not exact science though and studying fertility charting might still be a good idea just so you know when to take the OPK's so you're not peeing on a stick every day. GL!
If I only get a period once every 5-6 months would I be able to get pregnant?
It would be far more difficult for you to get pregnant. It would be wise to see your doctor about having some testing done. You can ovulate without a period, but it is not the norm. Your doctor can see about determining why you have so few periods and may be able to suggest ways to change that.
