    Can a landlord break a lease to renovate calif.
    Can a landlord break a lease because they want to renovate the property? They just purchased the property, but we are only 3 1/2 months into a year lease.

    No.

    They would have to buy you out or wait until the end of the lease.

    The only way they could break the lease to renovate is if the property is in violation of building/health codes to the point where it is considered uninhabitable.
