I would like to know what it typically cost to have a kitchen sprayer diverter replaced and also 2 bathroom sink p o levers(only parts at bottom of sink) replaced? The bathroom pop-ups are antique bronze(rubbed bronze finish)... no faucet or handles, just the ring and pops? And inclding labor costs?

Are you hiring a plumber or a handyman, charges will differ greatly.

He will charge first for the call out and then an hourly rate. This could run about $300

It's the charge for the call out that never makes sense. If a man works for me for 3 hours at $75 per hour I can't see why I should pay him for his ride to my job. I am with you

The moment that an employee sits in the vehicle, all overhead costs for running a business start to apply. Auto insurance, workman's comp. ins, gas, maintenance, phone services,etc. If I'm under the jurisdiction of an employer to tell me what to do, then obviously I'm on the clock. Also, if you're paying a guy $75 per hour, what makes you think that $75 an hour is going into his pocket. Add what was stated before, then tax all of it, take out some health insurance for his family (mine cost $6,000 last year in premiums not including deductibles and copays), the list goes on of expenses... need I say more or do you get the picture. If a plumber charges you $75 an hour, thank him from the start for being one of the cheapest in town. Just hope that the cheapest rate doesn't give you the cheapest workmanship.

I understand the concept, just do not accept it as being the best approach. If I charge and hourly rate it starts when I start the job. However, certain trades feel its customary to charge for a service call. Not all trades do that.
