Replacing a Rheem 5 wire condenser fan motor with an Emerson 4 wire condenser Fan
I have a Rheem a/c unit that the fan motor quit. I took all the information off the old motor and went to a local supply store and they cross-referenced the numbers and gave me and Emerson motor. All the specs are the same, 1/5 HP, 1075 RPM, 60 Hz, 1.3 Amp, single phase. When I got home, I took out the old motor, it had 5 wires. I noted where each one went then removed. When I opened the box and pulled out the new Emerson motor, it only had 4 wires. Now I am totally lost. The salesperson told me that the new motor would work and just follow the wiring diagram on the side. To me this looks Greek. This is what the new motor says: Brown and White to Capacitor. Red to L2, black just has a #2 beside the word red and under it it says insulated. I think it shows a jumper from the white capacitor wire to the L1. Could this be correct? On the contactor, I have the white and black wires coming in from the breaker box and they say L1/L2. On the other side there is an orange and grey wire going from the contactor to the compressor, T1/T2. Then there is a jumper that goes from T1 to one of the capacitors and the other wire on it goes to the compressor. On the old motor, the orange and purple wires went to T1, the black went to T2, the brown and yellow went to one of the capacitors in the box. So, with that all being said, how do I proceed? Brown and White to the capacitor, Red to T2, black to where? And do I put the jumper from the white wire on the capacitor to T1?
