    HVAC Vent Noise
I recently had my HVAC system replaced and now I am having a problem with the noise being generated by the room vents. It is probably because this newer system (the previous was >30yo) has a stronger fan motor and is forcing the air through the vents faster. It is really annoying and wakes us in the morning. How do I reduce this type of vent noise? Do they make "low-noise" vents?

Thanks ahead of time to any and all assistance.

Your first recourse should be with the HVAC people who did the installation. The noise is probably caused, as you suspect, by the higher volume of air. Many fans can be adjusted by the dealer/installer.

Thanks for the response. I am going to try and see if I can cut down the noise by using ceiling registers that have fewer slots and larger openings. Maybe that will help cut down on the noise being created by the air flow. I do not believe that the fan speed is adjustable on this unit, but I will check.

    Thanks... Howard

The fan speed is not adjustable by the home owner. The installer can make the adjustments.

I knew what you meant... just didn't say it clearly...

This is due to the higher velocity of air in the vents.

The best option would be to lower the blower speed. If that is not possible, use a supply vent with large fins instead of many small ones. Smaller ones cause the air to come out at a higher velocity, creating noise at the same time as causing it to lose its coolness. They make some vertical oriented ones that have a single diffuser plate which covers the vent opening, which makes almost no noise.
