Where? Without knowing where you are it's pretty difficult to say.

Theft by deception? Yes, in NY there's possible jail time.

Who was harmed by your act? That matters. And how great was the harm?

I am in Pennsylvania, and it was while I was working for a convient store and the total was under $500 including phone cards for cell phones.

I am in Pennsylvania, I was working in a convient store and it was phone cards that I rung through on my cash register then refunded so my drawer wouldn't be short and the total was under $500. I am willing to pay back whatever money I have to and do any amount of community service. Will I still have jail time I have a family I need to support

Can there be jail time, yes up to one year. Will there be, most likely there will be a large fine, one to three years probation, and you will need to repay all the money they claim you stole.

When you steal from an employer you face a harsher sentence than, let's say, stealing from a stranger.

    I see jail time possible.
