Can blood be infused using an IV pump?
Actually its quite the opposite. Its rare that a nurse will infuse ANYTHING without a pump. Even blood. The only exception is when infusing platelettes (something to do with how the machine works) they will still use gravity drips for saline, and a nurse once told me that she had to do it the old fasioned way on a patient who was crashing, and she had to simply stand over the bed squeezing out as much as she could into the patient. She said the doc was yelling "squeeze more' and she kept yelling back 'i have to check the bag!" lol.
But most hospitals now inforce the use of pumps for every thing now. There are exceptions but I'm not familiar with them
