His sister lived through this same thing. He's worse, can't or want eat, can't hold water when drinks, but is thirsty and tries. Is real slow walking, stares at the ground when up, not very responsive at all, please help, don't think he can beat this. Can't afford vet.

You need to find a way to afford a vet. Your dog could have an intestinal blockage, that may lead to a slow death if it is not taken care of.

There's really nothing anyone on the internet can do.

I don't want to be harsh, but it always pains me when I see someone that comes to the site looking for answers, tells us they can't afford a vet, yet they have a computer and internet.

If you can afford these things then surely you can find some way to get the money together for a vet.

Many vets will accept a payment plan, so call around.

If you still feel a vet isn't an option then please surrender your dog to someone that will care for it properly. Again, I don't mean to be harsh, but that's reality. If you were sick would you die because you don't have money for a doctor, or would you find a way?

MrsEmert... I will say this when you get a dog you have to be prepared to spend money on said dog. Vet visits for check-ups, deworming meds, and yes emergencies! I would go without things or even not pay a bill if this was happening to my dog. I am so tired of people on here saying

"My dog is very sick because of this and give me free advice because I don't WANT to find a way to get the dog to the vet" If you can't take your dog to the vet then you need to rehome him. You can always volunteer at a shelter if you are a animal lover. Though if you are an animal lover then you would not let your loved one suffer.

And how did you get to your friends house, or the library? Do you have a car, did you take the bus, a taxi? Do you see where I'm going with this?

Yes, I can afford internet (barely), but I'm by no means rich. We live paycheck to paycheck, and we have a house full of pets. I can tell your right now that if one of them was as ill as your dog, I'd shut off my internet, I'd sell my car, I'd sell everything I have to pay for the vet. Just like I would for my kids.

I was not at all rude, I was honest. Having a pet is not a right, it's a responsibility. When you take an animal into your home you take on the responsibility for it's health and well being. If you can't afford to do that, then find someone who can.

I'm sick of people making excuses and not taking care of their pets. It's not like the dog has a choice! He relies on his owner to do the right thing and make sure he's fed and healthy. Times are tough, I get that. So don't have a pet if you can't afford one. It's really that simple. :(

You need to find a way to get to the vet. Call around for a vet that accepts payment plans, forego a luxury on your paycheck, use a credit card, apply for carecredit (which is a medical financing card for vets, dentists, et al).

Or, rehome the dog. Or, watch the dog die if it's something serious. I'm sorry, but there's really nothing we can do over the internet. Be fair to your pet.

Dehydration will kill your dog if left untreated. I am sorry you are in this situation, but he needs to see a vet. Is he up to date with parvo vaccines?

You need to make sure he stays hydrated, offering water all the time, take his temp if he has a fever (Your dog's normal rectal temperature is 100.5 to 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit) offer no food and only offer cool to room temp water. I hate to keep repeating this, but your only option is to seek a vet. I hope for the best for you and your dog.

So what would you have suggested? Can you treat this dog without knowing what's wrong? Not even a vet can give an accurate diagnosis on the internet. The only option was the vet, or watch her dog die a slow painful death.

I'm sure she felt bad that her dog was sick, sadly, her feeling bad, and not doing the right thing, doesn't help the dog.

Stick around, read the dog forum for a few months. When you read 10 plus posts a day saying "my dog is dying, my dog is vomiting and pooing blood, my dog has open sores with maggots in them, what can I do"(and yes, those were actual questions on this site), after a while you stop caring about the persons feelings, and concentrate only on what's best for the animal in their care.

I'm sick of it all. If you decide to have a pet, it's not a right, it's a privilege, and you owe it to that living, breathing, feeling being, to make sure it gets the proper care. If you can't do that, then don't get a pet. It's not a hard concept to grasp.

Also want to point out that your post is wrong. It is our business. She made it our business when she posted here.

Where was the judgement? We did give answers, and if you have nothing more to add, then your 2 cents isn't worth mentioning on a year old thread.

Please enlighten us on how we should have answered? Was it we should have said it is all right your dog is in no danger and don't find the money for a vet or rehome it? Then have her come back and say why did my dog die you experts told me it is okay?
Some things can NOT be diagnosed over the net.. Plain and simple! Even a trained vet requires to see the animal in health situations.

Hah.. the answer was simple.. Go to the vet or surrender the dog to the shelter.

If you cannot afford a vet visit, than you cannot afford a dog, cat, small animal or livestock. Critters get sick.. and they cannot tell us why they are sick so they need to go to the doctor that spent 8 years learning how to read minds.

Here's what I eould of suggested to her in hopes of helping. Try uses herbs such as wormwood extract to kill parasites, why you ask do I say that because more dogs die from worms an the damage they do then old age. Then I would have also suggested marshmallow extract to fill the holes in the intestines when the worms an leave bkeeding sores inside the doggie. So that's just a small start on the things I would have suggested. There acutally are other

So you would have offered a false diagnosis, guessed at what's going on, suggested herbal remedies that aren't proven to work, and hoped that the dog would live?

What would you say when the OP came back telling you that her dog had died and she blames you?

What would you do when she sues you for the invalid advice you've given her?

You are responsible for your posts. If you offer a diagnosis, and a treatment, when you have absolutely no credentials to do so, you're putting yourself at risk. The site will not be liable or responsible for what you post. Do you realize that?

As one of the experts on the pet forum, I will not permit anyone to give a diagnosis, because it's not possible to do so over the internet. Not even by a vet.

By all means you can offer suggestions, and suggest possible things that are going on, but you cannot and will not give a diagnosis, and the only possible treatments you can offer are ones that are proven, like pedialyte for dehydration, or chicken and rice for a picky eater, etc.

This is not fun and games, this is a living being we're talking about, and the one and only valid answer is for the OP to see a vet for an actual diagnosis.

I will be watching your posts. If I see anything that goes against site rules, I will report you to the moderators.

Judy, I read his/her profile. Apparently he/she is an ex truck driver that thinks that owning a dog makes you an expert on dogs. :(

He/she (I'm guessing he), also seems to think that he has a right to force his religious beliefs on others, on a worldwide site where only a small portion of the people posting are Christian.

Many of his posts have already been removed, due to dangerous unverified advice on the dog forum. It's very obvious that he doesn't like his lack of expertise to be questioned. I've been watching his posts because I really am concerned about the advice he's giving. The people posting here expect real answers, not guesses and bull.
