Am I A Part-Time New York City Resident?
My husband and I own a house outside of New York City (in NY State) and are contemplating purchasing an apartment in Manhattan to make our commute easier. We would live in it 3-4 days/week and spend the rest of the time at our country house. We both work in Manhattan. Our primary residence is currently the upstate house, and we would not change this even if we were to purchase an apartment. Would we have to pay NYC taxes under this arrangement, and if so how much would we pay? Could this just be considered an investment property, or would we have to somehow declare the time that we spend in NYC for tax purposes? What other tax-related considerations should we keep in mind?
Thank you for your help.
