I get paid per diem, how do I claim meal expenses on my taxes?
I am an OTR, and for the first time in my 15 year driving career I took the "per diem" that my company offered.
Can I still claim any meal expenses on my taxes? The per diem that my company paid me did not even come close
To what Uncle Sam would allow me for my daily meals. I am trying to do my taxes by myself this year, since I cannot afford to get them done anywhere. I started two returns, one using TaxAct and the other TurboTax, and I get hung up and cannot continue. Please help! Thank you!

It depends. I assume you are a W-2 employee, not a 1099 self-employed contractor, correct? If the per diem that you are receiving is taxable (meaning it's included in your wages on your W2) then yes, you may deduct expenses using Form 2106, which carries over to Schedule A as a miscellaneous deduction, and so is subject to the 2% limit on misc deductions.
