How large of a task is it to replace Tie-rod ends(?) and lower ball joints?

Are there any sites I can visit to get more information?

Not too hard, if you have the right tools. Here's how to replace the outer tie-rod ends:

The basic procedure in this link should allow you to replace the lower ball joints:

If you can completely remove the knuckle, replacing the lower ball joint and wheel bearing is easy and fun. My method of using an air hammer to remove the lower ball joint is better and cheaper than any other method. Depending on the design of the knuckle, you may be able to use the air hammer to even install the new ball joints. On my Honda Civic I could easily do it this way. Go with Moog ball joints and outer tie-rod ends--you'll notice a huge difference.
