A rectangular garden measures 3x + 5 feet long. It's width is twice its length. Make a sketch and label each side with its dimensions. Find the perimeter of the garden. Write your answer as a binomial.
Have to made the sketch?
Let the length be y, then the width will be 2y (kind of strange, as the width is most of the time shorter than the length, don't you think?;) )
Then, the perimeter is given by:
2(2y + y)
Then you are told that the garden is 3x + 5 ft long... by that, I understand that the length is 3x + 5, hence y = 3x + 5.
Perimeter = 2(2y + y)
Substitute y by 3x + 5 and expand.
