How do I remove an old range hood with black and white wires only?
I want to remove an old range hood that doesn't vent anywhere. When I took it away from the wall I found only a black and white wire. I am afraid to move forward because I can't find anything online with black and white only (no red, green, etc). I have attached a picture of what I'm looking at.

Yes the power is off (I actually turned the entire breaker box off just to be sure I'm that cautious).

Do I simply just remove the yellow covers, take the wires apart then replace the yellow covers and tuck it back into the wall? I'm not replacing it at this time, just covering it up.

    Thanks in advance.

Black and White are exactly what you should have.

Black (Hot) will feed the load side of the fan and White (Neutral) is the return side.

You need to tell us what you want to do. Are you replacing the existing fan with a vented unit or another vent-less model?

Remove wires from hood and recap the wires from wall. Cover box with a blank plate that u can get at a big box store.

Do not cover with any kind of wall cover. To do so is a fire violation and could void your fire insurance if u have a fire.

There must be access to the wires.

I would gather it is an older house and no ground or someone grounded the box. Cap the wires off, use some electrical tape to be sure, put back in the box, cover, as Chuck says, and leave it in the wall. Breaker can be turned on.
