Changed visa status from OPT to H1B
    Hello,

    Hello,

I changed my visa status from F-1 to H1(started from October 29, 2010)... Can I file as a dual status alien? (what other options do I have)

I read somewhere that I can declare myself as a non-resident alien for the entire year and just file 1040NR

    Can I do e-file for 1040 NR?

    Thanks,
    Sandeep

    Sandeep:

You CANNOT efile Form 1040NR. It must be mailed.

File as a non-resident if you are single, because, in 99% of the cases, filing dual-status offers NO benefits tax-wise.

If you are married, you can wait until mid-June 2011 and file jointly with your wife. THAT offers significant benefits and is worth the wait.

If you need professional help filing your return, email me at [email protected] or [email protected].
