When it rains it pours. Everything seems to need repair at my house lately. My kitchen sink leaks only when I use the right side. I can't tell if it's leaking directly under the sink where the pipe connects to it, or if it's leaking at the 'joint' (not sure if that's the correct wording) where the pvc pipe connects to another pvc pipe. Does that make sense? Do you know how expensive it would be to repair? I know it would have to be looked at, but I'm just trying to get a round about figure of the cost. I wonder if I could do this myself. Could someone guide me how to find exactly where the leak is? FYI I never look under there. I have nothing stored there. I smelled this horrible smell and noticed mold and a leak. I put a bucket under there till I could get it repaired and the smell of the water is gross! Smells like sour I don't know what.. just sour smell.

I would rather someone else fix it, but I'm so scared of being overcharged for stuff.

Ok I just found where it is leaking. It is leaking just below the bottom of the sink. There is a thing that twists around the top of the pipe that goes directly to the bottom of the sink. That 'thing' which appears to be metal looks super worn out and is broken almost in half. I'm not sure if this is what is causing the leak or what exactly this 'thing' is called.

Yes! That shiny metal piece that 'connects' the pipe to the bottom of the sink! Mine is complete corroded... I just ripped it off that's how bad it was.. doesn't even feel like metal. I'm so proud! I'm on my way to Lowe's right now to get that piece. So I had to remove the piece below that and I guess it's called an o ring maybe? It is also worn so I'm going to replace that too! I hope that's all I need! I have to go right now, so I'll will let you know my progress when I get back.

I can just get that bottom metal piece right? I don't have to replace that whole thing do I?

Is it necessary to apply pipe dope when I reconnect the basket nut and washer?
