    Foot pain and swelling?
I have for a couple of years now pain and swelling in my left foot! It first started when I trapped my foot under a large gate having to pull it back out from under it! It was checked at the time but was told that it was just bruised... I have had problems since then, with it getting worse when I get hot (summer weather) Or if I am on my feet for a very long time... The lump gets bigger from time to time and is always painful... it never loses swelling completely anymore so I am unable to wear most of my shoes now... My GP sent me to Podiatry but they did no more than look at it from a distance and said I should wear a special insole! Why won't anyone look properly at it as it is just not right to have this constantly, I am at a loss to what to do next?! It affects every day of my life now.

    Any ideas??

You may have the tiniest of hairline cracks in a bone, and/or also deep bruising that doesn't surface, and presses painfully against nerves. I had that, and it took years to heal itself, and I was lucky enough to bring the bruise to the surface early simply by pressing on my swollen foot. The instant the blood spread all around under the skin (turning purple), most of the pain went away. But the tiny fracture hurt for years (the first radiologist missed it). Deep bruises that don't surface will harden and hurt for a long time. Opting for surgery has it's own problems with scar tissue forming and causing pain. You also probably had torn tendons, and they can scar where torn, and be painful. I'd find a sports ortho specialist group, but it will cost.
