How long does it take to clean a record
I was arrested for fraud under $5000 from a store. The total amount was $220. I was wondering how long it takes to get the record cleaned.

    Hello M:

A criminal record lasts FOREVER. Some states have provisions for expungment, but that only HIDES your conviction from the public. Government will ALWAYS be able to see it. You might also get a pardon, too, but the odds against that are insurmountable.

Unless there are special provisions in the sentence , like a first offender program, a record is never dropped off. After a number of years, often 7 to 10 you could file to have it explunged, but only if your area has or allows this
