Hi,

I have a new construction house which does not have plumbing rough-in in the basement. The bathroom will be located in the corner of my basement next to the sealed (radon abatement system installed) sump. I plan to use a Saniplus toilet so I won't need to use a platform. Can I vent through the mudsill on the exterior wall of the basement bathroom since the vent stacks are not accessible in the basement or should I somehow vent to the existing stack or maybe use a AAV? I've done a limited amount of DMV and feed work but am definitely a beginner. Please give me as much detail as possible - you definitely won't offend me. Also, how did this house meet code with 2 fixtures being fed by the same 1/2" copper pipe?

You will have to run two vents. One dedicated vent for the pit that can not connect to the house vent or a AAV and a vent off the lavatory that may be revented back into a DRY HOUSE VENT. If local codes allow you may vent to the outside through the wall.
Code calls for not more then three fixtures off a 1/2" branch. Regards, Tom

Thank you speedball1. Forgive my ignorance but does the "pit" refer to the toilet? If codes allow, can't I have one vent for both the toilet and the sink using one 2" pipe vented through the exterior wall or maybe, if I understand you correctly, have two 2" or 1 1/2" vents, one for the sink and one for the toilet? I'm really trying to avoid reventing since this seems like a lot of extra work but if I have to, I will. Also, thank you for the info on the 1/2" feed lines. This will make my life a lot easier.

Hi Phill,

The pit refers to the ejector pit and pump that will installed under the floor and have its own vent. The toilet and tub/shower will be wet vented by the lavatory vent if you configure them that way. The two vents can not be combined as the pit vent MUST be a dedicated vent. If local codes allow you can run the vents out a side wall. Regards, Tom
