I remember it was set in a really hot place in the US. The beginning started with a police officer or something talking to this guy, and it's revealed he's a sociopath. He's released. Then it goes to the protagonist, a girl (volunteers at hospital, has a best friend, is tall) sitting on her front steps when she sees people move in next door. She goes to introduce herself, and it's a cute guy, with sort of rude parents. At school, there's ANOTHER new guy (Scott, I think) and her friend and her talk about how crazy it is that two cute guys have moved in to their town. Soon, mysterious things happen. Her cat is killed, and later one guy takes her to see its grave in the woods. Ends with a fight in some old neighbor's home.
