Child support can ONLY be required by a court. The mother will have to go to court to get an order for support payments. If the alleged father claims he is not the father, the court will order that a paternity test be done to determine paternity. They will not issue a support order based solely on the mother's statement that he is the father.

If you are receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the federal government does not allow these benefits to be garnished.

On the other hand, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) can be garnished to pay child support payments. SSDI benefits are funded from the money you as a worker paid into the Social Security system (through employment taxes) when you were still working.
