    Brown water in system?
The other morning I noticed the water in the toilet looked dingy. After I flushed, it turned really reddish brown. I went to the kitchen and ran water in a glass. It was a little dingy but cleared right up. Went back to toilet, flushed again, and looked OK. Haven't seen the toilet do that again, but it has me worried. What's going on?

What is your water system? Well or city?

If city water, there may have been work on pipe in the area by city. This would disturb the sediment in the pipes and send it to your house and any other house on that line. Check with city to see if any work has been done.

If on well water, may be caused by low table in well. If happens often would raise well pump about 2 feet to get away from bottom of well.

I'm on a county water line. Funny thing is, it seems to be gone. Hasn't happened again. Didn't see any sign of county water work though. They usually put signs up saying they will be working from "Tue-Wed". I hope you are right and it is sediment that has now been flushed through. If not, I don't even want to think about it. Thank you so much for your response. I am really impressed with this question and answer site.

    Hi Beth

    Glad to be of help.

A suggestion: Remove aerators on faucets and clean the screens. After a couple weeks check to see if u have any sediment in them.
