Today circumcision is starting to decline and more boys are now being left intact so has your son ever asked why he was circumcised. Was it because his dad was, its way cleaner {lazy to pull foreskin back} medical problems or for religious reasons.

My son is 12 and is not circumcised. The new trend is to leave boys uncut, but there are still many kids in his class that are.
My husband is circumcised, and when I got pregnant we had a very long discussion about what we would do. I believe in research and asking lots of questions, so I went to work researching the pros and cons of circumcision.
The fact is, it's not necessary in today's world. Back in the day, when there wasn't running water, when kids were bathed once a month, there were many reasons to circumcise. Infection was a huge issue because of the lack of hygiene.
Nowadays kids are bathed daily or at least every second or third day. Also, we know a lot more about hygiene then they did back then.
My husbands mother didn't even have an option. Forty years ago when you had a son in our country, he was automatically circumcised, because they believed that was best.
Now we have options. After all of my research my husband still wanted to circumcise our son because he's circumcised. Well, luckily W5 had a show on about circumcision. We watched it, watched the baby screaming, the blood flying, the horror! I finally said to my husband that I'd be okay with our son getting cut as long as he was in the room with him when it was being done. Needless to say, the issue was dropped then and there. ;)
I have heard horror stories of men that have issues because they weren't circumcised, but the odds of something going wrong because they're uncut is very slim. Babies that are circumcised have a much higher risk then grown men that aren't.
Really, the main deciding factor was my OB. When I asked what he'd recommend he told me he couldn't tell me what to do, that that would be unethical, but he did say "I have 10 children, 6 are boys and none of them are circumcised".
My sons are 24, 23 and 9. None of them have ever complained about being circumcised. My oldest son has a son who is also circumcised.
Where I work I don't see the trend 98% of all of the baby boys that I deliver are circumcised. It appears that only the Hispanic population in my area does not circumcise their boys.
That's total horror!! Most of the boys I circumcise actually sleep through it or look around while sucking their pacifier as I numb the area prior to the circumcision. AND, if it's done RIGHT, there is very little, if any blood.Quote:

In Jared's class there are around 16 boys. Only 2 of the boys are circumcised (don't ask how I know. ;)) and out of those 2 one was circumcised because of religion. The second child has a younger brother that wasn't circumcised.
Here more and more mothers are choosing not to circumcise their boys.
Here, the boys who are not circumcised at birth are getting circumcised at later ages.. 2, 3, even 16 due to infection and phimosis.
It's a personal choice really, and I don't find anything wrong with anyone's choice. I just get upset when people do not have the correct facts about how it is done. I do it on a weekly basis. There is no screaming and crying, there is little if any blood, it's actually quite peaceful and I have parents stand next to me while I do it and are amazed at how it's really done compared to what they have "heard" or "seen."
It's much less dangerous having it done at birth than it is for corrective surgery later in life.
I agree that it's a personal choice. Trust me, I thought about it the entire 9 months that I carried Jared.
My dad was circumcised, R is circumcised. At first that was the direction I was leaning towards, until I started asking questions and doing research.
I have no problem with anyone making the choice to circumcise their son, it just wasn't for me. We have a bath tub, my son get's a bath or a shower every day, or every second day at the most. He's been taught how to take care of himself. He's never had a problem and he's 12. Once it's cut off there's no getting it back, but you do have the option later in life to get the surgery done if you're so inclined.
I do think that many of the people that decide to circumcise do so because of religion or because a male relative is circumcised.
I'm sure that most of the babies that are circumcised sleep right through it. I know that not all of these procedures go smoothly though. I have two friends that have their horror stories to tell about the procedure. Of course there are horror stories on both sides, and those horror stories only represent a very small part of the population.
Four grown boys and one 10, none of them even mentioned it or asked about it at all.
After the first circumcision I participated in I came home and called my two oldest sons and apologized. They asked me why I was apologizing because they couldn't remember it.
Personally, for me, a circumcised penis is more attractive. I have been with men who were not, it was a turn off for me.
