Why only 120 V at the breaker box to A/C ?
Thought there should be 240V kind of checked main breaker at power pole and read 120V from breaker to ground but 240 from breaker to bus.

Is the breaker installed correctly? I ask because I encountered this very thing on a service call last week. The standard double-pole breaker had been replaced with a slimline, and was positioned such that it was connected to the same line on both poles. Moving it one space corrected the problem.
