My cold water handle won't shut completely in my bathtub. It's old, I don't know what kind and it seems like the threading is off. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Have you thought about calling a plumber and having them take a look? Sometimes its well worth the money to pay a professional.

Check to see if the screw is tightened but be careful not to snap the screw in it
