I just had my septic tank replaced and now the old sewer pipe is allowing water to back up into my basement through all the previous drains. (old shower, floor drain, kitchen drain that used to go under basement floor.) I was hoping to trim the drains flush, maybe breaking out the floor around them and trimming below the floor level. And fill them in. what are my options?

Hi scout. One easy option would be to stuff the drain with newspaper, and just cement it shut. However, if you plan on breaking up the floor, you could cut off the pipe under the floor and use a rubber fernco adapter with plug in one side to plug the drains off.

You could try HYDRAULIC CEMENT (expanding cement) and see if that works. If not, you will be best to cut the drains below the floor and cap them for a permanent solution as MGD77 suggested.

That's kind of what I was thinking, was hoping to maybe pour the cement down the drain (when the water stops flowing out) and hoping that I could fill it not quite to the floor level, and then could trim the pipes later under the floor level and cement over. After I get the water damage cleaned up. Hopefully it will stop the water coming in.
