Our Kenmore 80 series is not spinning. Any suggestions?

One very common issue on these washing machines is the lid switch. On the right hand side of the lid there is a small hole. A grey piece of plastic should be their. The striker on the lid comes down and activates the lid switch sending the washer into drain and spin mode.
