Why is a seven year old dog still in a crate ? And one of the most easily trained breeds at that. You have one unhappy dog there and I don't know how else he can show it.

Some people crate their dogs indefinitely... I know mine always will be when I`m gone...

The dog was given to me three months ago, as the owner passed away.. when the dog's owner passed her daughter kept the dog for two weeks but he kept running away she couldn't keep him because it was too much with her new born baby and the dog, so I took him I love dogs I started to potty train him like he was a puppy but he just won't learn, I don't know if I can still train him even though he is not a puppy anymore

I have never used crates. My dogs have always been well trained; it is in my own best interest to do so. I never come home to a mess.

Ive never had an accident, but my dog has a tendency to get into things (he can and will climb anything, including the counters.. he has even been up on my fridge) when people haven't been around.. I got him as an adult though so god knows...

Yes, I know what you mean. I adopted a 'circus' dog, 'brook' from a client's daughter. She is four years old. They allowed her to have a litter and didn't feed her properly, a bit of neglect you might say in ignorance.
I witnessed her just sail up on counter tops and into sinks while I was caring for an elder, looking for food. She has never done that here because she has enough to eat. And happy to please me, we love her very much. She had already been house trained very well though.

Brook is a medium sized houndX about 40 lbs. but agile as a cat.

You're lucky Tick, but some dogs just suffer from separation anxiety, like my Lady. She needs to be crated at all times or she will mess in my house. She is house broken, but as soon as she if left alone she she goes wild. Not necessarily just urinating or pooping, but climbing the walls like yours and Sariss's.

To the OP, how bug is the crate that you are using? If the crate is too big, she will have a potty area. Seeing as you just got her 3 months ago, she is still adjusting, she just lost her best friend, and she is in mourning. It may take a bit of time for her to get re adjusted to her new life.
