What is the meaning of the 'HPAsset stopped working and was closed' error and how can it get fixed?

My understanding is this is caused by HP's "Total Care Advisor". I consider this non-essential software (HP's have a lot of that!), but this is my opinion. You can certainly run your computer without it, because I always disable it on my HP computers.

My advice would be to try to uninstall this non-essential software completely. Try going into Add/Remove Programs and simply uninstalling it. I don't think you'll regret it.
