I replaced the batteries in thermostat model white -rodgers #1f80-51 and now my heater pre heats but won't firewh

Changing the batteries in you thermostat will not be the problem. If the furnace is trying to come on but will not light, Its getting a 24v signal from the thermostat, telling the equipment to work. Not knowing the equipment you have makes it hard to help.
