You were self employed so owe Social Security right off the top, no matter how many dependents or deductions. Had you been an employee the employer would have paid half. Try for as many deductions as you can on Schedule C, and file the Earned Income Credit. Some cities and towns have free tax help such as from AARP and other retired accountants. You should be able to do it yourself though.
