I am serving in Iraq as a DOD contractor since Mar. 09. I bought a new home Sept. 2010 & did not own a home previously. I heard the homebuyer tax credit is extended to June 2011 for military & related govt. employees serving overseas. Am I eligible for the home buyer tax credit? Many thanks for your help.

I don't know (was watching for others to know), but are you an employee of the DOD or a contractor for the DOD?

Sorry, but it does not look like you will qualify. The instructions for Form 5405 are at the link below, and they do NOT list contract personnel as eligible for the extended time period:

This is NOT definite, however. You can send an email to the IRS, explain your circumstances and ask for a ruling about your eligibility.
