Warrant for state taxes against out of state resident
NY State has issued a warrant against me for un-paid taxes. These taxes are for a business that I did not own but they are holding me responsible because I helped with a chapter 11 filing. I live and work in WV and also deposit a government penison in to my only checking account ( no other monies are deposited in this account). Can they cross state lines to garnish my wages or seize monies from my checking account if it is a protected deposit?
    Thank You

Yes, NY can collect from you out of State from unprotected monies. Hopefully someone who is more knowledgeable will come along but I find nothing that indicates a Government pension cannot be attached - same as any other pension. SS is, of course, exempted.

I don't understand the warrant - you were not involved with the company, you helped with the legal filing of a Chapter 11 and now you owe taxes on the business? If this were true every accountant, CPA and/or Attorney who does tax work would be liable for the taxes of every client who files.
