I replaced the rear drum bearing on my stackable Fridgidaire washer / dryer with the great instructions from Applgue. The job was very easy and the drum does not squeak at all. However, after getting everything together the dryer did not turn on. I then took it all apart again thinking that I pulled a wire. Everything looked fine and I checked continuity across all contacts. Then I began trying different combinations with the switches. I found that the dryer will only start when the washing machine selector is set to spin and the washer will only start when the dryer switch is turned on. This doesn't make sense since everything worked fine before I changed the drum bearing (except the maddening squeak). Does anyone know what might be causing this? I appreciate any suggestions.

You switched a wire somewhere because when the washer is set to spin it sends electricity to a different circuit than it does when it is on wash. Check your wiring diagram and you should be able to find the problem. DrTom4444

Thank you for the tip. I have traced all of the wires and matched them to the wiring diagram. Nothing looks switched. Someone suggested a faulty 240 outlet. Does anyone know if a faulty 240 outlet could cause a cross over to the dryer and washer switches? This seems like a peculiar issue since the unit worked fine before I changed the drum bearing and the only wiring harness that I disconnected was the door switch. I really appreciate any advice.

Did you remember to plug the door switch back in?

Yes, I did plug the door switch back in. This was the only connector that I had to remove when I took the front panel off the dryer. After putting the door back on I connected this switch. I have also checked this switch for continuity and it tests good. Thank you! Any more thoughts?

It is not possible that a wire switched on the 240 outlet caused the problem. As long as you have the grounds where they are supposed to be and the hot where they are supposed to be the 240 outlet and cord should be okay. DrTom4444

That is good to know. So I assume that the problem is within the washer / dryer unit. Could one of the wiring harnesses be bad which would cause the circuits to reverse? Thank you!

Why not attach a wiring diagram and a list of switches that must be on for it to work. It may be possible to find which circuit is bad that way. DrTom4444

Sounds like a wire got crossed. There shouldn't be any connection between the dryer ans washer wires except the power coming in. If a wire got crossed a resistor could be restricting current. I Agree with tom. Triple check the wiring.
