    Shoplifting-Notice to appear
    All right,

So I used to work at Target a while back. I probably wasn't the best employee because I was always goofing off with friends and after the holiday season in 2009 they kind of phased me out of the schedule to the point where I found a job somewhere else.

I'm going to school and have a couple friends who do security for Kohls which is what gave me the idea to in fact "be stupid."

Last fall myself and a couple of friends went into the Target store where I used to work and pretended to shoplift. I wanted to see if I could get the undercover's attention. My friends who worked security at Kohls told me that as long as I didn't leave the store with anything or damage anything than it wouldn't be a big deal.

Well I just got a Notice to Appear in the mail saying that I had been seen stuffing golf balls into my pocket last fall and now I have to go to court!!

I remember putting golf balls and a couple other random things in my pocket but I took them out of my pocket before getting near the front of the store. I never saw anyone following me which is why I got bored and left but if they were following me or watching me on camera why didn't they stop me when I left if they thought I still had something?

I've never heard of anything like this before... does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions or ideas about how to deal with this? By thoughts I mean... other than it was a really stupid thing to do because I know that now but I never left the store with anything so how can I accused of shoplifting 6 months later?!

How do you prove you didn't leave the store with goods ? They obviously thought you did. You will have to appear, you have been ordered to. You will have to sort it out at that time.

Well yes I know I have to appear and I plan to sort it out... But it's not my responsibility to prove I didn't... They have to prove their case.

I pulled the stuff out and it should have been obvious that I did. The notice that I got said a store security officer was making the complaint, if she thought I had something she should have stopped me when I left.

I know a little bit about probable cause and I'm sure they have that but there is no proof I actually left the store with merchandise...
