I am a 16 year old boy wondering when is it necessary to get a new puppy. My dog recently died do to parvo but in my case he caught it at another house hold. At this house hold the mom was allowing a friend to resign at a trailer in front of her house. Her friend had two pit-bulls living in this trailer with her. One of them had gotten sick and was taken to the vet down the street, he had blockage or something that didn't had anything to do with parvo. But later that day the other pitbull that was 11 months old happen to get vary ill. The vary next day they took it to the vet and the poor thing happened to have parvo and was put down the vary next day. My dog a chuawa mix was currently in the house for a night and ended up getting a test the next day cause we noticed the puking and depression seeping in. the test showed barely any traces but indeed he did have it. We caught this virus vary vary early before it set in and we did the right thing to put him down right away. He was at my house for a whole night he stayed on the bed and slept the whole time. So with him barely having it not making much movement and taking the precaution of wiping down the house in bleach sprinkling the yard for a whole week with bleach and shampooing the carpets, bed ,couch everything it said to do I am hoping that it is ready for a new puppy. But not trying to be selfish I wanted to hear comments to do with my situation. Please don't make fun of my writing I happen to be 16 and not be the best writer. Thank you for the help.

The thing about parvo is that it can live in the environment for YEARS. It's not just the house you have to sanitize but the yard as well, it has been known to live in the soil up to 7 years.

If you want a puppy you will have to make sure every inch of your home and garden is sanitized with bleach and even then I would be wary about getting a very young pup.

If you wanted another dog have you considered adopting from a shelter or rescue?
Older dogs have a better resistance to the virus thanks to multiple vaccinations and a stronger immune system.

You put your dog down due to it getting parvo?

This post is disgusting. You put down your dog because you THINK it had a slight chance of catching parvo. Unless your dog wasn't vaccinated as a puppy, the likeliness of your dog actually getting parvo as an adult is very slim. Your adult dog CAN be exposed to parvo, and it might even get a little sick, but typically the adult dog can fend off the virus by itself. If you tested for parvo, and it came up positive, it very well could have been a false positive (meaning, your dog was exposed to the virus but fighting it off).

I would suggest not to get another dog since you obviously don't want to treat a treatable disease.

Plus, parvo lives in the ground for years.

Wow thank you for answering so quickly and yes I have they don't tend to have smalll dogs at all. And I'm sorry for leaving out this part of info but his brother same age as my dog is still alive and healthy living in my house it has been two days no symptems yet and we are still keeping a eye on him. I'm afraid for him to get it but really he's doing just fine minus worrying about his brother

I know this and my dogg did not have its shots and was miserable. 3000 dollars is too much to treat my puppy and I was not going to put my sisters dogg at risk of this virus. I wish I could have helped them but they broke my spirit by telling me that he was going to die so I did the right thing by not letting him die a painful way

Then I would suggest to not get a puppy. Get an adult with a known vaccine history. It will lessen the exposure to diseases such as Parvo.

There are other ways to treat Parvo.. home remedies that are proven to work. I'm sorry your dog was put to sleep...
