    J1 VISA & 1099 FORM
    Hi All,

    Wondering if any of you can help ? I am traveling to the US to train with a compnay for 12-18 months on a
    J1 trainee visa am I OK to be paid on a 1099 form and pay the taxes myself ?

    Yes, there is no problem with being paid under Form 1099-MISC since you will NOT be held liable for the FICA (Social Security and Medicare) taxes, so no wihholding is NOT an issue.

    It IS a technical violation of the visa, but as long as you file the returns and pay the taxes, it will not be an issue with the USCIS.
