Who has custody, they need to notify SS admin with proof that court has given custody or guardianship to someone else
I am the father and have had full custody of her. Did not know mother was getting this until recently. Has received since daughters birth. She is 15 now and wantig to go to law school. Can she recoup any loss?

How do you expect a straight answer if you don't tell the truth? Which is it daughter or niece ?
It is daughter her aunt gave me this site. She is trying to help me so I decided to talk for myself. Apologies
Either way it needs to be reported. Your only chance of recovery if you can prove she has been getting the checks is to go back to court. They may be able to charge for arrears for the amount in question and ensure that the remaining checks make their way to the custodial parent.
What do you need help with?
You don't need to start a new thread when you have started one. If you explain your situation we will be glad to help as best we can.
I had my daughters Aunt help me try to find out info about ssi benefits for children. My daughters mom gets ssi for her and my daughter. I just found this out recently. I have had full custody of our daughter for 13 of her 15 yrs of life. I would like to know if my daughter can start getting it herself and arrears for the yrs she has purger-ed the gov.. My daughter wants to go to law school and this would be a great thing to secure her future education.
You need to go down to the SSI office with your daughter and the court paper work that shows you are the parent with legal custody. Also have child's birth certificate.
You will need to make a claim to first of course have benefits changed and ask them if there is a procedure to ask for repayment of the money that was suppose to go to her though you.
