    Is this legal?
    The office at my school had my iPod because they thought I stole my iPod which I had found almost 6 months erlier when I went back to get it there was a cop there and she took it and said she was going to try to contact the original orwner. Is this legal?

    Yes. You should have turned the iPod in instead of keeping it.

    Bottom line, it's not yours. It never was. You didn't purchase it, you found it, and instead of returning it to the rightful owner, you kept it. Do you really think the original owner won't want it back, didn't search for it?

    Why do you think they confiscated it? It's most likely because the owner reported it as stolen. You've had it in your possession for 6 months. In my eyes that's the same as stealing.

    Do you not realize that this is wrong?

    They will probably not believe that since you had many opportunities to turn it in. Have you thought about the actual owners trouble and expense? However, possession of stolen property has to be looked at carefully to see if you would be charged with that.     Agree, if they don't charge you with actually stealing it, they may charge you with possession of stolen property, Some areas have other names for similar crimes.

    The issue is that you knew it was not yours, and you needed to turn it in, not keep it.
