Peanut our 5 month old female english mastiff has been in our family now for 1 week. She has done really well with potty training. We take her out every hour and she goes, but today she has been extremely lazy (more than usual) and after getting off the coach I noticed she had peed while lyung there.. also while lying on the floor. Any thoughts?

Has she been checked by a vet? She could have a UTI. Where did you get her from?

She's still pretty young and accidents do happen. It could be that she just wet the bed, it happens. Kids do it all the time, dogs can do it too.

If this continues you should definitely get it checked out by a vet, but one accident isn't something to be too concerned about.

She is being seen by the vet this in two days.. she has only been doing this today, and it has happened many times today. Normally she goes potty every time she is taken out but today she just lays there. We got her from an add that was posted online they breed them. I got her in southern California. She has not had many accidents and when she does we catch her and she goes right out but now she doesn't even sniff around she just lays there and goes.

If it's happened multiple times today, and she's lethargic, then the vet is really your best option.

Keep an eye on her. If she refuse to get up, or has any other issues, then take her to the emergency vet asap. If this is a UTI it can become serious.

The bad thing is that the "breeder" you got her from isn't a breeder at all. Breeders don't advertise in papers, they don't need to, they usually have a waiting list of clients for years. The person that bred your dog is what we call a backyard breeder. They don't do health checks, they don't know what they're doing in regards to breeding, and it's very likely that your pup picked something up while there.

Tahnk you all for your advice! I'm hoping the vet visit goes OK. I will post results of that... yeah this is our first puppy, and I wasn't pleased with the surrounding of where we got her from! But once we meet her I couldn't leave her there. They said on their add she had been dewormed and had shots and was akc registered, when I asked for the records she said well we have been so busy we haven't had the time for the shots and were waiting on her fathers papers! I was so frustrated, she said if I came back in a few hours she could go and get her shots and do it herself. I told her forget it you have the money and I'm taking the dog! Even though the whole add was a lie I couldn't leave peanut there I know she would not have been properly cared for. We love her and were getting her caught up on shots and are willing to do anything for her health!

Unfortunately that's what you get with backyard breeders. I doubt you'll ever see those papers. It happens all the time, promise of AKC registering, but they'll put you off over and over again, make excuses, and then just ignore your calls.

She's a pet, so AKC registration isn't important. :)

Your vet knows her history, the fact that she hasn't had her shots, so he/she will do a thorough checkup. Make sure you tell your vet everything that's going on. You should also let him know what type of environment she lived in, because she could have picked something up there.

I hope she's all right. If it is a UTI then meds and TLC will have her back to tip top shape in no time. Try not to worry too much. I know it's hard.

If it turns out to be a UTI or a bladder infection I recommend the food Nutrience Original With Blueberries and Cranberries. Hunter (my puppy) starting peeing in the house after he was house broken, we guessed right away it was a bladder infection or UTI, sure enough we started feeding him this food and the peeing has stopped. The cranberries help get rid of and prevent UTI and Bladder infections.

It's not a good idea to just suddenly change foods, it will upset the dogs stomach. If the OP wishes to change foods then a gradual change, mixing new food with original and then slowly weaning down to the new, is always best.

The food you're recommending may help with a UTI, I don't know as I've never heard of it, but it's still best to see the vet.

Yes, she should change the food over time... and yes she should see a vet, that's why I said IF it turns outs out to be a UTI.

The only problem with the food is that is has one sole meat ingrediant... Chicken. But with Dukes allergy's this is great, since he isn't allergic to chicken (but he is allergic to beef and turkey... )

It is also mixed with Evo, so really, its just for the Cranberries.
