I am getting a 3-unit permanent bridge, and one of the prepped teeth was not root canaled. I now have a "trial period" with the permanent bridge when it is installed on the temporary cement. Although my bite was adjusted to the point where I feel very natural, the "live" prepped tooth is sometimes a bit sensitive to the bite and to VERY hot liquids. It is not sensitive to anything else, and the pain if it arises is bearable and transient. My dentist says the root canal is not needed and that the pain should subside with time. I do not want to do a root canal also for many reasons; hovewer, I do not want to be in pain either, even if it's transient.
So, my question is: is the pain likely to subside with time? Will it subside to the point where I can bite things like carrots and apples on that bridge without risk of a sudden pain subset? Being in my situation, does it make sense to attach in permanently without the root canal?

The pain should subside, in most cases it does. Now if it ends up that you still need a RC the DDS can do that through your crown. Don't get a RC at this time if you don't need one. (that would not be a good move) I hope this helps you out. Good luck.

Thanks so much for your reply. The pain did get substantially better within the next several days after I asked this, so I had it cemented permanently today. Now after the numbness wore off, seems like I am not in pain at all. I am glad I did not insist on doing RC! Thanks again!
